Gert Colgan joins the Capital Region Wellness Center as a Body Worker. Gert is both a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Massage Therapist. Her Professional memberships include the National Association of Social Workers, American Massage Therapy Association and National Certification in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.
Gert completed her MSW at Fordham University and held clinical and administrative positions before doing full time private practice. Her massage training was at the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy, Westport, CT. Her continued training in other body work modalities include Pregnancy Massage, Healing Touch, and CranioSacral Therapy Techniques.
Bodywork, as does Clinical Social Work, enables the client to explore him/herself in a unique way. In so doing, the client engages with the therapist to listen to the wisdom of the client's body and experiences. Thus, through listening, the therapist and client create a healing environment and an exploration of the client's needs. Out of this experience comes healing and the recognition of the powerful potential each person possesses.
We invite you to schedule an appointment with Gert at your earliest convenience. We know she looks forward to working with you.
In Swedish Massage, the strokes can be very relaxing or as deep and penetrating as the tissue permits. Not everyone benefits from deep massage. In CranioSacral Therapy, the belief is less is more. This is very light touch bodywork, which works with the body's ability to heal itself in a gentle, patient way. During Pregnancy Massage, the health and wellbeing of the baby and the mother are addressed by using different techniques and body positioning. It is Gert's practice to do Pregnancy massage in the second and third trimester, under the advisement of your health care professional. Healing Touch is the practice of energy healing and is used by itself or in conjunction with the other modalities discussed.
